So. Birthday today. Milestone birthday. Bleah.

Joe & I made up yesterday, decided we didn't have time to actually go and see a movie, so we ran to Blockbuster and wound up buying six previously viewed Blu-Rays, justifying the expenditure with the notion that...hey, if we'd gone to dinner Saturday and gone to the movies yesterday, we probably would have spent MORE. We got Hancock (love Will Smith), Tropic Thunder (love Robert Downey Jr), No Country for Old Men (heard it was good, anyway), National Treasure 2 (yeah, I know, but I love the franchise and Jon Voight is one of my all-time faves), Taken (excellent movie I know we'll want to watch again), and Body of Lies (DiCaprio and Crowe? It's GOT to be good - neither of them has chosen a lousy script, yet). We watched Hancock. Not great cinema, but certainly watchable and enjoyable.

Then we went up to my parents', where Catherine, as usual, had been a perfect angel. Dad and I opened our gifts (mostly clothes, with a couple of books (Michelle Malkin's and Dick Morris' latest) and the old-style Nintendo controller for the Wii for me). Came home, watched the 8:00 showing of Mad Men in HD, and then went to bed to watch the end of Harry Potter IV (what is it with ABC Family channel, anyway - do they have some kind of contract with Warner Brothers that they have to broadcast the Harry Potter movies at least once a month?) We stayed up, drinking wine and talking, until after 1:00 in the morning. He made me open my present - he got me very nice diamond stud earrings, which I put in the second, mostly unused, piercings in my ears and will, likely, leave there most of the time.

This morning, we took Catherine to the doctor - she's in the 23rd percentile, weight-wise, but the 85th for height. Tall and thin, like her mommy used to be (still tall - not so much thin). She got three shots and didn't even whimper. Even when we took her to the lab for a blood draw (we're getting an allergy panel done on her - since she's allergic to eggs, we want to know whether there's anything else we should be concerned about before we try anything new), she was very good, and stopped crying even before the needle was out. Bummer - she won't be able to get flu shots because of the egg thing, and we're a little concerned about that, particularly this year.

Nothing else to report, really. I need to buy some Wii credits so I can download some of the old Nintendo games I used to love.
