Note: Spontaneous idea, quickly written. The thought of Kristoph and Dr.Fu smiling is what kicked it off, I think. XD It's a fic mostly for
karnimolly and
pandir, because few others will get it. ^^;;
Kristoph couldn't have asked for an easier case. In fact, he'd have prefered something a bit more challenging, appropriate to his skills. But he wasn't one to complain. He watched his client smile sweetly at the prosecution and declare that he never asked anything of his subordinates that wasn't part of an ordinary working relationship.
To be honest, Kristoph couldn't see where the accusation stemmed from. His client was a small, slender man, quick to smile and apparently a renowned expert in his field. The man he had supposedly abused was a giant of a man with hair like a lion's mane and more muscles than one would expect in his line of work. If anything, it should have been the other way around.
And none of them had made the accusation either. Neither had the huge man's younger brother who was now called to the stand by the prosecution. He seemed a bit nervous, but overall friendly and competent where his work was concerned. He, too, defended Kristoph's client, and fervently so with a blush of determination on his pale cheeks.
The case was finished before it had really begun. His client's son refused to testify about anything related to his father - which after all was his right as a relative - and that was all the prosecution had to offer.
However, Kristoph Gavin was no fool. He recognized the quick glances in between the harmless smiles, and he could read the signs of body language that said something very different than the actual words spoken. His client was anything but innocent. But he had commited no crime that anyone who had the right to accuse him objected to. Kristoph saw no reason to destroy their beautiful, precarious balance.
Kristoph knew the smile on the doctor's face; it wasn't so very different from his own.
They shook hands outside the court room, saying their thanks and good byes. Then the doctor took his assistant's arm and they strolled down the corridor as if nothing had disrupted their every day proceedings.
Their defense attorney adjusted his glasses and turned to his own apprentice who's forehead was furrowed in concentration.
“Is something bothering you, Justice?”, Kristoph inquired softly, pulling the young man out of his thoughts.
He looked up at his supervisor, blushing. “No, I'm okay! I mean... there was something about this case... something I felt...”, he murmured, nervously playing with his bracelet.
Kristoph chuckled and put a hand on the young man's shoulder, urging him to start walking. “I'm sure there's no reason to look so very worried. I'll explain the case to you later.”
The other's face brightened. “Thank you, Mr. Gavin!”
Smiles all around. Another case solved, an innocent defended. All in a day's work for Kristoph Gavin, coolest defense in the west.
