To My Brothers- and Sisters-in-Arms, Past, Present, And Future

May 28, 2012 12:04

On this day we remember those lost
And count up the too heavy cost,
But there are those who still fight today
Who leave homes for lands far away.

To those are these words written here
On the sea, on the land, in the air.

May your gear always be light,
May your cause always be right.
May the mess hall always smell of home
However far from that place you may roam.

May your boots stay dry.
May the flag ever fly.
May your letters and phone calls be long.
May the last of the bug spray be not gone.

May your deployments and training be short.
May you not have anything to report.
May your buddies have more tricks to play.
May they be there at the end of each day.

And for all the battles you’ve fought,
May your sacrifice ne’er be forgot.

Fair winds and following seas, my shipmates.
God be with you ‘til we meet again.

this is why i write, *cries*, i will always be a united states sailor, fair winds and following seas, original: poetry, in memoriam, ;_;, some days i miss the open ocean, proud to be an american, honor-courage-commitment, one of those days i get all: weepy, memorial day, i know where i've been
