Little Face
I don't normally read detective / mystery books, but this was good. It was about a woman who goes out for a couple of hours leaving her husband watching her 2 week old baby. When she comes back she is convinced that the baby in the cot is not her baby, but no one believes her. Once I got into the switching of time and voice each chapter it was very readable. Not too convinced by the ending though.
Call the Midwife
Wow. Everyone should read this. What a piece of social history. Jennifer Worth was a trainee midwife in the East End of London during the 1950s, caring for women living in some of the most deprived areas of the city. It documents her experiences and the people she met. I really had to remind myself a number of times that this was only 50 years ago as the conditions people were living (and giving birth in) could so easily have belonged to a Dickensian novel. My mum saw me reading it and has now borrowed it from me (I got it from the OU library so I've had to get it renewed to give her time to read it).
