I'm seriously thinking about becoming a
polyphasic sleeper. I've always hated sleeping, and often felt I get the most done when I've napped, allowing me to stay up all night doing semi-productive things. After reading some things, in particular
this jackass's blog, it sounds like it's right up my alley. I've already been pretty much biphasic for the last couple weeks, sleeping about fours hours a night and trying to nap a few more when I get home from work. It's not really working. I constantly feel tired and unrested.
If I do this, I think I'll be starting with the "Uberman Sleep Schedule," which consists of half-hours of napping every four hours, though I may later adapt that to better fit my needs. I'm not clear if it's so-named because it was created by someone with the screen name "Uberman," an actual Uberman, or because it transforms you into an Uberman. Clearly, I'm hoping for the third option.
(If I become an Uberman, I may join the S.S.)
My biggest concern about it is my work schedule. How am I going to nap at work? There's a closet with computer servers in it that might create a good white noise to fall asleep to, but I don't know how my co-workers would react to such a move, particularly within the first month of employment. This is the kind of thing you want to spring on someone once they've already accepted you. I would guess the news to otherwise have an alienating effect. I've considered using my car as a "sleep pod," but only to refer to it as such, using my fingers as quotes to indicate that it's not literally a sleep pod. I've previously had difficulties sleeping my car, though.
If anyone else wants to try it, we should start a midnight society, like in Are You Afraid of the Dark? We wouldn't have to tell scary stories or anything. We could tell any stories you want, or just have circle jerks. As long as we called them, "Tale of the Circle Jerk," per AYAotD canon.
With all the extra time, I'll also be looking into polygamy.
