The Last Nine Films: November 19, 2010

Nov 20, 2010 14:10

Damn it! I don't think I have ever had such a tough choice in ranking films! First, "Cat on a Hot Tin Roof" was a lock-in for "Top Three" until I watched "The Social Network". TSN would have been higher up on the list if it wasn't so damn misogynic. And then I had such a tough time deciding between "A Few Good Men" and "Fight Club"! Both such great films. But at the end of the day, I think A Few Good Men was much more personal to me... and while both were films about a "man's world", the stronger woman, who did find a place for herself in the "man's world", was the Demi Moore character (A Few Good Men) as opposed to Helena Bonham Carter's character (Fight Club). So I guess my feminism was the deciding factor ;).

Best Film: A Few Good Men

See above.

Fight Club (1999)

  • Thought-provoking, brilliant performances, interesting storylines. Well-deserving of the title "a modern day Classic".
Memento (2000)
  • It definitely had that Christopher Nolan feel to it. But the ending just left me thinking "So what?" It wasn't this big reveal... it just went to show you how truly idiotic this character is.
The Rocky Horror Picture Show (1975)
  • For some reason, I was positive I had seen this film before. But I watched it for the Glee episode. Honestly, besides the "Dammit, Janet" number, I really wasn't impressed. And the ending dragged.
The Manchurian Candidate (2004)
  • Too bad I didn't know this was a remake of the film that ranks on every single film list. I mean Streep's amazing as usual, but it just wasn't interesting to me. Even though it was set in the political arena...
Love Is All There Is (1996)
  • Just to watch young Angelina in a comedy with an Italian accent made it worth it =). But the story was a bit too ridiculous, who lets their sixteen year old kid get hitched after one day of meeting? And who even falls in love in a day?
Cat On a Hot Tin Roof (1958)
  • It's a Classic for a reason. Great acting, great storyline, GREAT dialogue!
A Few Good Men (1992)
  • Brilliant! I think I've said enough about this film. =D. I love courtroom dramas!!!
The Dark Knight (2008)
  • I was bored to tears.
The Social Network (2010)
  • It was a very grand production, and a very impressive film. I enjoyed the storyline, the sense of humor, the quick pace of the dialogue. But I just wish it wasn't so misogynic! There were only two female characters in the entire film who were not portrayed in a bad light - Erica Albright and the Rashida Jones' character. The rest of them were college girls/interns falling all over themselves, dancing naked, doing drugs, being groupies, and setting scarves on fire.
