Totally crashed this week, in a nice sorta "set the house on fire? y / n?" way. Am in much better spirits now.
Funny week for "The Daily Show" (won't be on next week 'cause of writer's strike), and my bro got me a keychain with a REAL scorpion preserved in amber @ the Indian Expo - I guess 'cause I seem to be the kinda girl that collects poor, dead critters o_O?
Actually I think it must be some Sagittarius weirdness, my sister used to preserve dead snakes, scorpions, centipedes and her aquarium fishes in alcohol. (and yes, I'm still the weird one, lol)
I'm a hippie, so I like things to return to the earth. I used to want to be cremated 'cause I have an awful fear of worms (Scoleciphobia) though, but after seeing the process I don't think it would be best for the earth, and am trying to talk myself into being buried in a nice simple shroud. But then I'd worry about polluting the water table....o_o not that I spend lots of time thinking these things, y'know. *cough* (I don't wear animal prints or camo-gear either, never have)
Anyway, from my sisters early experiments, I know that scorpions decay pretty quickly, until only the exoskeleton is left and this breaks off at the segments. So I just said a pray for the little guy. But it's actually really bad, 'cause my bro got one for himself as well, and supporting that type of industry is so not cool.
The only thing that sucked this week was that I bloody well missed Halloween >_<. Was totally looking forward to it whole October and was prepped, and ended up sleeping in that day. I feel a little like Sunako-chan from YNSH - missing my fav holiday. But ne'ermind! I enjoy Halloween year-round like Christmas, so it's all good. My country doesn't make a big deal outta it anyway, it's mostly just clubs, though its been getting popular, so many one day *hopes*
The best part of this week, that I enjoyed from the sidelines and so will be horribly late in cheering for, is Bleach ch.298!
ZOMG! It made me so happy, and ecstatic, and just good things. Apart from an amazing colour-spread, Byakushi showed up for Rukia!! Threatening brotherly vengeance even, I squealed like a 14 yr old. ALSO! Unohana showed up *gyah* And Mayuri for some fucked up reason has decided to out-freak sZayel. That's one fight that's gonna be disturbing.
The colour-spread -- "Though Electromagnetic Waves Our Hearts Are Connected" -- immediately resulted in srs shipper-wankage. To the effect that even this week's sub by Dattebayo of Bleach 146 had this message: "What do you get when you cross the Titanic with the Atlantic" (I assume they meant "cross the Atlantic with the Titanic", but same result) *cough* *cough* That's a little harsh. But considering the crap I see from certain scanlating groups, I still think it's damn funny.
The episode actually didn't suck as bad as I thought it would. Neriel was cute, like squishable even, they downplayed much of the intensity in Rukia's appearance. Ichigo's face didn't go through the emo-stratum it did in the manga (but I guess that's why manga is always better). Also they've pointlessly extended the fight with the sand-hollow that Rukia gave the righteous smack-down to.
But it was beyond lulz to watch Ishida (with stomach) be totally GAY with Ichigo. And the studio included a cute scene where Nel clings to Ichigo and asks all suspiciously; what Rukia's relationship to Ichigo is, answer pending till 2020, unless u can read the obvious. XD
I for one love the spread!! It goes back to Kubo's trendy roots, no angst in sight. Some can argue that these inserts are just fanservice and don't concern the canon, but I think that because it is fanservice, it does speak of the audience / author relationship and can be used as a platform for the author's message (direct and not bogged down in plot).
I love the bright clothes, and the abstract, simple black & white background. The uneven separation of the solid black lines from the solid white ones creates a cool visual illusion, heightened by the placement of the characters. Kubo always places his characters on different levels, which adds perspective and depth, instead of making it a flat fashion-model shot. Impact is harder for 2D, I guess?
The simple background just makes them stand out more. Ichigo > Rukia > Inoue >Ishida. For me the
colour yellow, always speaks of "friendship" - without looking online. It can be connected to the much-sporked yellow rose in the current anime ending. Something bright after the dark. This is a nice site for
Japanese flower associations, and u can see the Gotei 13 ^__^
What makes this shippy to me, is the characters that show up and the title. One of my favourite lines from Kubo is "Speaking is not communication" - Yet here he shows the kids on cellphones and under the title "...our hearts are connected." When we want to communicate with people who we aren't with, we call them, we bridge the distance with phone calls - and these waves carry our message.
It's not over-interpretation to say that the spread is about "communication". Everyone can choose what ship they "see" represented here, but to me everyone looks so relaxed and laid back it's easier to tell. Ishida would never look that happy talking to Ichigo, and he and Rukia have almost no connection. Inoue is doing her blushing, sweet-faced thing, and usually when she talks to Ichigo she uses her forced cheerfulness. I'm not into IshiOri, but I'd consider this supporting the early assertions Kubo made in that direction. Sorta saying that even if their last interaction was ages ago, they're still not forgotten.
As for the IchiRuki, I mean, really? What more is there to be said, lol. They both look awesomely hawt though, and Rukia is actually smiling a little (no the sky's not falling), and I adore her hair in that style. Ichigo is shown just looking handsome loud and scowly, a big difference from the really dark look Kubo's been pinning him with lately.
I could go into the alternate pairings, but I haven't seen manga evidence that would even suggest those things to me. Confession or not, Inoue's feeling haven't reached Ichigo - at least, not those of love. And for people who are constantly separated,Ichigo and Rukia are the most popular het. couple I've ever seen marketed. I mean, there's everything - Even an insanely squee-worthy and REAL IchiRuki proposal on Youtube.
Since I watched "Mushi-shi" cause it was rated as one of the most popular anime's, I decided to watch "Kamikaze Kaitou Jeanne" -- which was pretty much an adventure in WTF?
It's a mahou shoujo adventure/ love story about a young girl (Maron Kusakabe) who happens to be the re-incarnation of Joan of Arc (Jeanne D'arc), which gives her the job of "checkmate" -ing demons and stealing art o_o (No, not kidding) Her love interest (Chiaki Nagoya) is a rival thief (and playa flirt) called "Sinbad" - who I thought was supposed to be the pirate and kept trying to connect and turned out to be the random name of an arcade!! XD
Actually, if you side-step the crazy, there's a pretty great story. I had a srs hate on for Maron's best-mate Miyako, who is like Ms. Future Detective and annoyed me with her stupid, but then she went crazy and tried to shoot Maron, and was actually a deep character. I also had some major loathing for Jeanne's costume when Maron magically transformed. the hair was especially trauma inducing. The story is all about faith, trust and love. It may have killed some brain cells, especially with the checkmate nonsense, all in all I really wished I'd just re-watched CCS XD
