Give me color, Spring!

We watched Rang De Basanti at Ibn Battuta Mall's Grand Metroplex today. Aamir Khan's movies are always so good..

This one was about these four college "dudes" [that is such a hetero word!] who are persuaded into acting in a documentary film about the freedom fighters of pre-1947 India. They slowly realize that the situation in modern-day India is very similar to the situation before Independence - except that it isn't the British phirangees who are eating into the land this time around, it's the Indian politicians themselves who are corrupt like nothing else in this Universe. The youngsters decide to do something about it only when one of their acquaintances who is a pilot in the air force is killed when his plane crashes and the defense minister blames the dead pilot for it when in fact it was due to the cheap, weak airplane parts bought by the government.
I especially liked the scene where they showed the massacre of a thousand or so unarmed Sikhs at the Jallianwala Bagh, carried out by General Dyer. It was deathly sad, that scene.. and the music just added to the sadness.

Of course, my review doesn't do any justice to it. 'Tis one of the best Indian movies of 2006, without a doubt.

God damn this common cold to hell.. my nose keeps tickling itself to the verge of sneezing and then decides that sneezing can be done later. 'Later' never comes. This has been going on for quite a while now and my eyes are all red and bulgy because of it. A sneeze is all I ask for!

"We have one foot in the past, and one foot in the future, that's why we're urinating on the present!"
-- Aamir Khan as 'D.J.' in Rang De Basanti.
