I got a letter from UCAS [Universities and Colleges Application System] today. It's the system through which you apply to British universities and colleges.

It isn't anything special, just a dismal memo (sort of) that if you get lower grades than you expected and the universities whose offers you had accepted before, don't lower their condition and hence don't firmly offer you a place on the course you applied for, then you're eligible for their ClearingTM program in which basically vacancies in other courses are laid out in front of you and you're supposed to choose [as fast as possible] the course that you like next best.
Gee, thank you, UCAS, for reminding me that I might just fail in my attempts to score an A in Chemistry and be forced to apply for something dreadful like ecology or economics [because clearly, the more interesting courses like biomedicine and astronomy are gonna be full!] instead of being offered a place in medicine :(

In their cheery little memo, UCAS also requests us to be at home when results come out. That's August 16th. I was planning to be in the Motherland [er, India] for the celebration of the 60th year of independence from those cursed phirangee Brits (in whose country I'm hoping to study medicine). India's independence day is August 15th. I was planning to go to India for a couple of weeks just to meet all of my 13.5 billion relatives and acquaintances before I leave for Newcastle in September and being the patriot that I am, I was planning to be there for Independence Day. But now it seems that it's advisable [uh, necessary] that I stay home in Dubai on results day so I might just have to leave earlier and be back in Dubai earlier than planned. Shit.

I love this song so much.
