Back with a bang

For most of the past week, I wasn't doing much. I got a haircut on Tuesday which was the highlight of the day. I went through some Biology notes about proteins, enzymes, nucleic acids etc., but nothing interesting. Until Saddo Raani arrived on Thursday.

Sadaf, my cousin from San Diego [I attended her wedding reception in June 2005] is here for a week. Her husband, Saad bhai was here in Dubai for around seven hours and then flew a little less than 40 hours home to San Diego. He didn't like Dubai.

Ten of us: Asif bhai, Sadaf, Abeer, Mariam, Insia [cousins], Sarah [sister], Arjun [roommate], Tariq, Asad [family friends] and I went for a desert safari to some really gorgeous red-sanded desert on the Al Ain-Hatta road on Friday. It was better than last time's, but shorter. At least they had a vegetarian buffet on this one.. yes, as a patriotic Indian I care only and only about food. At the hookah place, some drunk Keralite fellow came up to Sadaf and said in a thick accent [so I heard],"Medem, vere are you frum?" Asif bhai, who was sitting with her, immediately replied, "Siri Lanka."
There was a belly-dancer too, though she wasn't an Arab one, she was a Filipina chick. She danced just as well, though, and the drunk Keralites were having a ball taking advantage of all the flesh she was showing.
After I had had food and gargled with the horrible, horrible-tasting water, Abeer and I slow-danced on the dance floor.
Photos are here.

Yesterday, on Saturday, we went off to the beach to catch some afternoon sun, which happened to be setting by the time we got there.. so we did the cliché thing and sat on the rocks to watch the sunset. Beautiful phenomenon, that one. I managed to catch some photos.
After that we went to the mall - the Italian one called Mercato. Got some groceries from there. I'm getting good at it because I picked out some really good, seedless, sweet oranges without even checking first. We had dinner at Mallah, the Lebanese restaurant on Al Diyafah Street.

Now to the point: today was the first day of school after the 23-day break. Mrs Augustine gave me part of my coursework back after checking it. In the 'Analysis' section, I had sketched a really intricate curve [on graph paper]. It had different colors for different kinds of tissues and it had error bars, a scale, a color key and everything. It was a masterpiece. Mrs Augustine must've been feeling pretty cruel because she took a nice, fat red pen and she marked two very conspicuous question marks and wrote beside them "anomaly".
I was seething mad. I even talked about getting a gun to shoot her down and she heard it - and just smiled. I was just mad because I'll have to sketch the graph again with all the error bars [those take a long time to do] when I give the real coursework [this was just a draft].
And the worst part was that Jim wasn't even class today, so I couldn't even look at him to feel better.
