Bringing in the Nu Year

Abeer and I planned to go to Chilli's for dinner on New Year's Eve with her friends. Arjun drove us to Mercato, an Italian mall where we met Abeer's friends, Maisam, Hamza and Zoa'ib.. and her girlfriend Amna was already with us.
Abeer was like, "Chilli's isn't far from here, let's walk." I don't really have a problem with walking a kilometer or two, but everybody else was complaining. Amna got sick of all the walking and took a cab with Maisam to the place. They obviously got there first. It took the rest of us about 45 minutes to walk to Chilli's. There was a huge bunch of people waiting outside - they had all given their names to the maitre d' and were waiting to be seated. Amna had also given her name and was told that "it depends on the guests, ma'am, we can't tell you how much time it will be till your name is called". Darn. Pessimistic Maisam said it would take like an hour or more. So Abeer and I volunteered to walk further to Pizza Hut to see if they had any free seating.
We walked on and on towards the Pizza Hut that wasn't in sight. 15 minutes into the journey, Amna called Abeer to tell her that we'd got a table. The other people who were waiting had disappeared. Hurrah!

I had some sort of a vegetarian pasta and a soda. Everybody took their money's worth out of the soda refill. Hamza and Zoa'ib chugged down like seven refills of soda with ice, Amna and Maisam had four-ish and Abeer and I had a measly three refills. I couldn't finish my pasta.. there was very little left, but the sight/smell of food was making me nauseous. So I got out of the place and went for a walk. When I came back, feeling better, the folks were still eating! My God!

We were paying our bill when the clock struck 12. The whole team of Chilli's staff went crazy. They got their utensils out and and starting banging them against spoons, going up the stairs and then down the stairs and then up again. We followed them around, feeling crazy. Noisy way to welcome 2007, but definitely better than how I welcomed 2005 or 2006 - by sitting at home!

After that we went to the beach where there was a beautiful breeze blowing. The sight of the moonlight reflected off the water was charming, really beautiful. My three stars from the constellation Orion were in the sky, bright and shining. Maisam took his shirt off later and the boys, excluding me, posed for a very sexy photo, to Amna's horror. Don't have the pictures yet. Ah well..

Arjun drove us home. Fun fun fun New Year's eve.
