The first thing one might notice, however, is not the period furniture or the formally dressed man in the middle of it, but rather the crowd of animals puttering around him. They're smaller animals, to be sure, but there are a lot of them-a dog, guinea pigs, ( Read more... )

Welcome aboard! [Most Englishmen notice Armand's French accent, if they care about that sort of thing.]

That is quite a menagerie you have there. Perhaps you could talk to Count D. He is very fond of animals, too.

{He'll notice, but not say anything.} Thank you! Wonderful to hear there is another about with similar interests. I will definitely seek him out. Yes, I didn't quite think I'd be able to have this many with me, but as it turns out this is a very large ship.

It is rather large. And I think you most definitely added to the population.

Yes, yes, {laughs} I rather think I did, didn't I? I am just ever grateful that there is enough room. I'd hate for everyone to fight over spaces to sleep.

Enough room is not usually an issue. You do have some arrangement for their feeding don't you?

Yes, I do seem recall an agreement with that lovely being who asked me here. I don't remember the details, but there is certainly a large supply of feed in the front pantry.

That's good. Some animals eat quite a bit.

If you or they wish to visit the garden, please feel free to ask me.

Yes, some of them do eat rather a lot, one has to be careful they don't eat all the feed for the others. Is there truly a garden? This ship must be terribly large.

It isn't a large garden. Come up on deck sometime. If I'm there, I'll even show you the greenhouse.

My, yes, I certainly will. I'm sorry, I don't think I caught your name?

Oh, my apologies. I'm Armand St. Just. [He nods his head in lieu of a bow.]

Wonderful, splendid. {Dolittle returns the nod.} I would certainly love to see the garden. It is amazing how much there is on just one ship.
