Hi I'm Joel. Born and raised in beautiful Southern Oregon.

In 2003 I graduated from the University of Oregon with a degree in Economics

I soon learned that most companies hire Accountants and not Economists. Without any great job opportunities, I got a hire calling and decided to join the Marine Corps Reserves in 2006.

By the summer of 2007, I was on the ground in Al Anbar Province serving as a Field Radio Operator.

In 2009, with a deployment under my belt and GI Bill benefits in my pocket, I re-enrolled in the University of Oregon. By the Spring of 2011, I had my Accounting degree and was ready to retry my career search.
I took a job as an Accounting Assistant at a Commercial Printing company in Southern Oregon. This is where I got my first real experience with Information Systems, and Managerial Reporting. And I discovered what I really love to do, turn large sets of data into meaningful information that decision makers can use to make better decisions.

I loved what I was doing, but I knew if I wanted to advance in this type of career I would need to be somewhere that offered much greater job opportunities. Austin was just the place! In 2013 I moved to Austin, Texas with my sister.

As soon as I found this program, I knew it was a perfect fit for my skill set, and long term careeer objectives. I am so excited for the chance to be a part of the big data revolution. Solving problems, and improving lives all by making better decisions based on real time data. Sounds like heaven!
