The harry potter exhibit was fantastic. It was nothing drastically awesome, and the exhibit part of if seemed rather lacking. That is, I expected there to be a little blurb on special effects and for it to be filled with fun, quirky facts. I expected some relation to "science," even tenuous. But, even lacking those things I expected, it was filled with a lot of detail in what they did show it. There were a lot of costumes, i feel. And the details in the costumes were amazing to see, up close. It kind of makes me want to learn how to sew well, so that I can get into this whole costuming thing a bit farther. And, Sirius black wins for Best Jacket Ever, unfortunately I can't find a good picture of it. And there were the various props and wands and set-pieces.
The wands have been really irritating to me. For me, they've always been wrong - handles! why do they need handles? And they are, generally, far too long. But, after seeing them up close, I'm just irritated at how plastic they looked. As trivial as it seems, Voldemort's wand has been really irritating me. It's clearly made to look like bone, but (even the sign on it admitted) it's yew. Is it possible that yew could be treated to look like bone? I just feel like the wands are so central to the magic in the Potterverse, and that the materials that they've used for the wands really don't make me feel like they were made to be all-that important. *shrugs* There's always got to be something. Still, great to see the elder wand.
And, don't get me started on riddle's diary and the smooth-plastic basilisk fang. Chamber of Secrets was the most disappointing movie for me.
Amusing fact, the last line on all of the Proclamations was something like: "blah ablah blahdy blahhblah . . ." Also, the Daily Prophet text is mostly gibberish, but they do use lots of phrases over-and-over, particularly: "Vincent Crabbe was bit by a flobberworm"
In summation: Thestrals and house elves are adorable, I got to throw a quaffle, Voldemort wears some really girly robes, I think Emma Watson is really short, the triwizard tournament cup is made of rubber(?) not glass, and I've been filled with far too many ideas of things that I want to replicate including the curtains on the Gryffindor beds.
If you visit me before February 21st, I'll certainly go see it with you.
