I'm watching "Winged Migration" on Animal Planet for the first time. I'm bawling on my couch now because I just watched a sequence where these beautiful parrots are flying through a jungle along a river. Suddenly a camera pans to a boat going down the river carrying cages filled with monkeys and parrots and the monkeys looked SO sad. It was tragic. At least one parrot was clever enough to escape from his cage on the boat, but I can only imagine the fates of the other animals.
It really is a beautiful movie, but my heart breaks watching hunters blast geese and ducks out of the sky. I wasn't expecting to see that, and though I know this film is just depicting the reality of these birds, it's still hard to watch.
I feel like I'm 7-years-old watching the baby gazelle get separated from its mother with no hope of survival on Mutual of Omaha's Wild Kingdom. I cried then too.
