One of our suppliers donated a bag of homegrown fruit to the staffroom and I want to know what they are (buuut I didn't take a pic, derp).
I initially thought they were figs because they had skin very similar to an unripe fig- green with some streaky bits not yet turned purple, slightly larger then a golf ball with a small gnarly bit on the end opposite the stalk and the same sort of 'give' you would expect from a green fig (or a kiwi fruit). We cut one open and it was pale green inside with dense flesh. If it had seeds they must have been very tiny and simmilarly coloured because I don't really recall seeing them. It smelled like bubblegum with a hint of green apple. It wasn't oozing juice but some came out when I squeezed it and it tasted like pure sugar syrup (like, it was almost too sweet to eat; the kind of sweet that makes your mouth pucker lol) and had the same apple overtones.
One of my colleagues said our supplier is Italian and I think he was inferring that the fruit may be some kind of 'traditional' Italian/European food, but my colleague speaks English as a second language so its entierely possible there may be some wires crossed there between the two of us!
So what were they guys?
EDIT: Turns out they were feijoas!
