Late 80s Early 90s TV Series
This was a TV series in the late 80s or early 90s and was about a small town in post-WWII era. It had some well known TV actors and actresses, but I cannot remember any of their names. I thought one was Vince D'Onofrio, but it's not on his IMDB, so maybe someone who looks like him, and an actress I always thought looked like Madonna with dark hair.
Soldiers are returning home. The not!Vince character returns with a British War Bride who only used him to get to America. A very pregnant Italian girl shows up at the door of the very well off, snobby family's house, however the son she married was killed as his troop ship home was torpedoed. She does not know until she arrived. (Random tidbit, the mother is scandalized that the girl tries to breastfeed the baby.. how barbarian!)
One family is run by a war widow, played by the Madonna look alike, who loses her factory job because the women lose their jobs to the returning vets. She takes up with a communist union organizer who comes to town to unionize the factory there.
Her daughter, or daughter-in-law, is killed when an anti-union person shoots randomly into the house. There is something about forcing forsythia for her funeral.
