far-fetched opera with happy ending, #1352
I'm trying to remember the name of an opera. My memory is sketchy, but I believe that all of the details below are correct. Unless I made them up in my head.
- I think it's set in Florence, Italy
- A girl is in love with one boy but is forced to marry a count or similar
- She gets sick and appears to die. She wakes up on a slab wrapped in a shroud
- When she tries to go back to her husband, he thinks she's a ghost and won't let her in. Her former lover takes care of her.
- When her husband finds out she's really alive, he tries to force her back
- A judge rules that since the girl was legally declared dead, her marriage is invalid and she can now marry her lover
- Allegedly, it's based on a true story.
