violin band?

so, i vaguely remember watching somehting like regis and kelley or maybe the today show maybe 5-8 years ago, and they had this special guest band on. it was made up of maybe 5 women, or a few more or less, and they all played violins or other string instruments. the thing was the violins looked really cool, NOT like regular violins at all. they were very modern looking, and i remember they played this really great music. i dont think it was folky, but it may have been rock with a classical edge to it. i just remember REALLY enjoying the music, and that's all. =\
i'd be happy for ANY info on the band.
