ok so i'm trying to remember a book i read in high school. it is about this woman who deicdes to leave home after high school (possibly after some sort of medical/nursing training). i think the reason she left is so she wouldn't get pregnant like every other girl in her high school lol. she gets a car (don't remember where she's headed) and is driving wherever she has decided to go. she stops at a diner or something like that and when she goes back to her car there is a little native american baby in it. she keeps the kid and names it turtle (its a girl)... anyway it progresses from there i just can't remember the name of the book or author! any help??
