I have never cooked a ham in the crockpot. I pour ginger ale over the top of it, then give it a light coating of brown sugar and just roast it. It's easy, and tastes incredible. Everyone I have ever made it for raves about it.

Erm...till it's done? Sorry, I do most of my cooking by guess and by gosh, especially when it comes to things like ham. A couple hours? I usually give it another dousing of ginger ale, and then a little more brown sugar toward the end.

I've never done ham in a crock, so cannot help with that. However, 10 lbs for 9 people means you will have a lot of leftovers. The Butterball hotline advises .25 to .5 lb of meat per person; I assume this number would apply to ham, turkey, whatever.

I have done teardrop ham in the crock with either coke or root beer and it gets great reviews! I love it!
