Thanksgiving Ham

So, I'm having a Thanksgiving with friends at my apartment this year, and I know everyone will be tired of turkey by Saturday. I decided that I would make a ham instead, and I'm thinking of a 10 lb. ham for 9 people. I would like to try making it in the crockpot, since I don't have one of those upright ham rack thingies. I do have a roasting pan, ( Read more... )

I am doing ham in a Nesco (its like a large crock pot for meat. Its my mothers.) for Thanksgiving. My brother is allergic to fowl.

I am sticking my 12lb ham on a rack in the nesco for about 3 hours. With water on the bottom to start then I may add some orange juice or 7 up about a hour before food time. Its a pre cooked brown sugar spiral cut ham. You are going want to keep it off the bottom of the crock pot some how otherwise it could burn. I suggest a rack of some kind and some water/juice/clear soda will work fine. you want roughly a lb of meat for each person that will be there is the normal recommendation. If you have left over you have stuff to put into potato soup later.

I am fairly sure you are not going to get a 10lb ham into a 6qt crock. You might get most of it if you cut it up but I am fairly sure you wont get it all. If cut it up you can forgot the rack just make sure there is liquid in the bottom. Though I was warned about juices, the sugars in the juice can burn if you arent careful and sort of watch it alittle and not let all the liquid cook away.

That is currently all my knowledge on ham vs crock pots.
