So Saturday night was the biggest fundraising dinner of the year for the County democratic party. We got a lift from our friend J so we didn't have to bring coats and whatnot, and we managed to find parking 1/2 block away for only $3.95. We got there a little before 6 PM and got checked in. Headed over to get the free cocktails and mingled with lots of folks. The silent auction items were arranged all over the mezzanine lobby of the Hilton and there were waitrons circulating with plates of appetizers too. I had a nice chat with one of the candidates for circuit court judge, and it's always nice to be able to tell someone that you have already voted for them.
Around 7 we went in to sit at our table. Dinner was lovely, with a caesar salad with pine-nuts and thinly sliced ham. I had the pork with veggies and rice, and A had the chicken. Then there was a caramel nut slice of pie for dessert. Of course there was also a few bottles of wine on the table. I totally lost count of how many glasses I ended up having. I DO know that I had two before the dinner, and A estimated it was 9, but I don't think he saw all the times I poured, because he was away from the table for a while.
The blues bands were good, and entertaining and the auction was fun. The only downside of the evening was that they waited so long to give out the award. The sweet lady who won ended up with a mostly empty house shortly before 10 PM and she really deserved more people and recognition to be there.
On to the auction. I had bid on a couple of items in the silent auction and lost out on them. I also bid a few times on items in the live auction, but most of them quickly escalated out of my price range. In the end I got a ZOOM teeth cleaning and whitening treatment from a dentist who was sitting at our table for $275... a standard value of $900 or more. A managed to win the bid on brunch with our House Minority Leader who is also our House Rep for our district. That should be fun, and we've got to make the arrangements with his office manager. We also donated an additional $50 to support the volunteers and supplies for the office.
All in all it was a fun evening, had a lot of wine, met some nice people, got recognition from the podium during the dinner for being an officer and got home and didn't end up with a hangover... so bonus for me!
