I've decided that when I'm a proper grown-up and can have my own pets, I should have a naming scheme for them. So far the only non-fandom related scheme I can think of would be people with plants and animals named after them (or other major contributions to taxonomy)- Douglas, Linneaus, Lewis and Clark both, Steller. I feel like I'm leaving out someone obvious. Archibald Menzies, maybe, since the scientific name of Douglas firs refers to Menzies instead.
Those are mostly boy names, though, so if I end up with girl pets I'd go with lady scientists. Marie Curie, Ada Lovelace, that sort of thing.
But this is just an idea. Nothing concrete yet.
