Dress questions

Hello all. Thanks for being such a great resource. I have another question for you, this time about dress alterations. I bought my dress several months ago, and my wedding is on September 21st. My dress doesn't need major alterations--a bustle, some decorative buttons added over the zipper, and possible being let in or out slightly depending on if I can get off another couple pounds in the next few weeks. To make this more complicated, I am currently interning in a small town in the middle of nowhere, but my internship will be finished the last week of August and I'll be moving back to where my fiancé is living and where we'll be getting married. That will leave about 4 weeks between when I move back and when the wedding is.

Okay, so as you can see this becomes tricky. It is going to be hard for me to get there in August to do a dress fitting the recommended 8 weeks out. Is it a terrible idea to have somebody local do the bulk of the work ahead of time, and then just hope that the dress still fits for the wedding? Would it just be better to wait until I get back and immediately do a fitting and hope they have the time? Should I just find a way to move the heavens in order to go there 8 weeks out?

Lastly, can anybody recommend a good seamstress in the Twin Cities metro area (closer to Roseville is better)?

Thanks!
