So far, finding a caterer has been the hardest and most frustrating part of wedding planning. I've already waded through the huge number of caterers available, narrowed my list and contacted the short list and gotten a few proposals. I've further narrowed the pool to three caterers, have tasted at one and have tastings scheduled for the other two.

The one I tasted at already... I told the guy that while my parents are paying, I want to keep things at a certain price. My proposal came back 20% more than what I had told him, not even including my rentals. Referencing the proposals he gave to me as examples of other weddings, I know that this price isn't bottom of the barrel of what he can offer me. (Not that I need it to be bottom of the barrel, but.) Certainly the proposal is not the be-all, end-all. But how to I approach him in asking him to get it closer to the budget I had in mind? I don't want to be rude but I also don't want to pay all that much more than my initial price point.

Thanks for the advice :]
