We had an easier day on the 8th July - spending the morning doing a Hearst Castle tour then driving to Lancaster via Santa Barbara. Then the 9th was driving from Lancaster to Palm Springs, stopping at Calico Ghost Town on route.

7th July - We spent almost all day in Monterey, in the Aquarium for the most part then drove down to San Simeon.

The Sea Otters were the very best thing, followed by the pretty Albatross!

We didn't get flooded (a fact that the village celebrated with drinks and hotpot) but the main road west is unpassable. We had a few hours without power, but versus a lot of other places we got off lightly (the next village along with barely passable, but people have managed to check in with them ( Read more... )

I hope people who live in the areas flooded are ok/have gotten to a safe place - and I am really hoping that the rain ends soon. And the storm names are still taking time to get used to (some of the names, Nigel and Steve, workmate was disappointed that this one isn't Dave ( Read more... )
