Oregon's "kicker" law, which refunds 18.6% of your income tax when the state has more than a 2% surplus, just resulted in my getting a $193 check in the mail. (I lived there for three-quarters of 2006, remember.) Given the double-digit balance in my checking account here at the lean end of the quarter, when the financial aid done gone, this could NOT be timed better. Christmas presents!! This made my day.
