"Party on the street! Party on the street!"

well, first update of the new year. woulda updated sooner, but there was nothing to say: had a very short break, hung out with most of the homies, went to las vegas for a shopping spree then to san jose in which i again caught a cold, and now just trying to get through my classes and work (since it's now admissions season)

damn working during admissions is such droning, tedious work. there are so many applicants and they all have to send in their portfolios that it just becomes too tiring, since i have to open, date-stamp, and file all of it. but whatever i need the money.

so today was a day to remember. since today is the inauguration for bush people here staged a massive protest against bush outside the federal building which is a 15 minute walking distance from my apt. i'm not a hardcore political activist, but my roommate and i thought that this was an experience that we shouldn't pass up so we went. goodness there were soooo many people there. they all had signs and costumes protesting bush and the war. and had a small stage where people were speaking out as others were walking across the streets protesting to the passing cars as they honked with approval. all the while there was a huge amount of cops on bikes, horses, motorcycles, cars, etc. watching over the protest in case of a riot.

being part of this protest was such a fun experience. this protest had about 3,000 people in attendance and brought together the tweens, children, parents, hipsters, hippies, punks, gays, lesbians, veterans, hot guys, you name it. the signs were just creative and fun to read. and interesting sign that i remember said "fighting a war for peace is like fucking for virginity." i was like damn. then there was some tweens chanting "George Bush go away...racist, sexist, anti-gay!" after that at 8 EVERYONE staged a mile long walk of protest. we walked all over westwood as one big ass swarm of people chanting "Fuck george bush and no more blood for oil" there were even these three group of guys, one of which had a bush mask on and was crawling on the ground with a leash around his neck being dragged by the other two. once we got back to the start the cops already blockaded the street and had their sticks and helmets ready to combat a riot. ive seen such action on the news and stuff but seeing it up close and personal was a whole new experience, my roommate and i were scared for like a split second.

now i know many people are in favor of bush and thats a persons right, but come on...especially looking at this war it seems like a non-winning battle. i'm forgetting why these troops are at war anyway... and today at his inauguration bush and his family attended like NINE lavish, expensive parties where he's dancing, laughing and partying to celebrate his reelection while people are dying overseas?!? there's something wrong with that picture....
