I've finally completed a new batch of hats, and did a few different versions of some hats that I already have. Anyway, cow hat! I changed the horns to make it look more like horns:
We got a new couch so no more white leather background! The horns are much better than the other
one so I think I will keep the horns like this from now on, and the nostrils are a bit different too ^_^ I also made a blue bunny hat:
Most likely I will be making many different coloured bunny hats ^_^. I made another Jasper hat, but made the mistake of having a black brim instead of a white one - it still looks ok though:
The white brim just makes the white marks on his face look more natural, this makes it look a little out of place. Oh well - hot glue isn't reversible, and the mascot is wearing a Jasper hat with no white brim :D . Panda hat! I did the ears differently, it was hard to sew the white middle part in, so I used felt instead and stuck it on, MUCH easier to do that:
Unfortunately I made the mistake of sticking the blush marks under the eyes, instead of the cheeks, so it looks a bit different >< One of the new designs - the tiger hat! I'm pleased with how it turned out, although the stripes are fiddly to do:
And finally, the apple hat! it's pretty cute, but I may need to get a darker green for the leaf. Hmm...
But anyway, I've started/added a new project to the things I'm making. And it's all because of my mascot, I was thinking about making a life-sized version of it, since my sister who is coming and helping out wanted to dress up like the mascot - and I thought - why not make the watermelon and slice and the salver, but make it as a box so that it can be opened and be filled with lollies? And the lollies can be the watermelon lollies from
Roc Candy, and on the salver can be the business cards, and my sister can walk around offerring free lollies, and cards and getting people to come to the booth!
I toyed with some ideas: I could make the box out of polymer, and the slice can actually fit into the box, and be pulled out - but I wasn't sure if I would be able to make a good enough box, it may come out wonky, and maybe a bit too heavy to carry? Paper air dry clay would be lighter, but I wasn't sure if I could paint and gloss it, and it dries to the spongy texture and most likely would not be very durable - plus I don't think I have enough to make it.
I settled on painting a cardboard box and glossing it, and use paper air dry clay or polymer clay (or a combination of both) for the vines and leaves, and for the slice use polymer clay. The slice won't be able to go into the box unfortunately, but oh well, it'll still look good ^_^ And for the salver, I would have to get a board and decorate it, and stick the watermelon, slice and business card holder on it by velcro, that way there will be no chance of it slipping off the salver.
Yesterday, I started on the salver - I bought this board (it's actually a cake board) that had silver embossed foil on it, and used decorative rub-ons to decorate and create a border:
I wonder if I should use something to coat over the rub-ons to make it more durable? It would be a pity to have it scratched, but how? Laminate it somehow? Gloss it?
We will have to see ... The box I got to be the watermelon is smaller than what a life-sized watermelon would be, but any bigger and it would be too ridiculous to carry around. I got two boxes, since I think I'll make one for the salver to be carried around, and one to be placed on the table for visitors. I also got some glittery green paper, and some 3D pink flowers, and I think I'll use them to decorate the board too if it doesn't seem too much ^_^ How exciting :D I'll just need to order the lollies, they come in 1kg bags (about 300 pieces) and I'll just have to get some cellophane to wrap each lolly, or else they'll stick to each other, or even stick to the box. But that's all that has been happening lately!
EDIT: I just figured out what to do with the big cakes and cupcakes - I'll turn them into photo holders, with a peg attached on a skewer stuck into them ^_^ I guess I like to have things that are functional. So of course that meant I hied off to Spotlight, and got myself some pegs, red and green cellophane (for the watermelon lollies), and another glue gun and refills - I tried to get modelling paste (Monte Marte) to use as cream for the cupcakes and cakes, but I couldn't find any, only Impasto, and it's not good to use. And tonight, I will start painting the watermelon boxes and gloss over the salver!
