He really is a smart kid - miles ahead of most of the class in understanding and using spoken English, but he has absolutely no volume control. I've been keeping my eye out for alternative exchange programs (other than JET) that are comparable, and found a whole bunch that will send you to South Korea, pay roughly 1,700 a month on top of paying for lodging, and often room you with other English-speaking teachers (which would help me not be lonely).
