I've decided that my Dorf needed some love and set myself to leveling her. As I closed out my gaming for the night, I hearthed to Stormwind and found myself in the middle of what seemed to be an emo pissing contest between a Mary Sue and a Gary Stu.

( Wouldn't want to cut you with this lj cut. Or would I? )

Also timebender would fit much more to a sue who is a bronze dragon than this girl.

To be fair... there have been a couple dragonriding groups in Azeroth's history--the Dragonmaw orcs, and also a wiped-out group working with green dragons up around the Draenei area.

And I can allllmost see Timebender working for a mage--they do have Time Warp, after all.

I just can't bring myself to hate on the first one too much. It's on the cheesy side, sure, but it's a tall (if maybe a bit too tall) night elf who's neither super young nor OVER 9000 years old, so they get points with me for that.

The second one... ehh.

I'm still mostly just getting newbie-RPer vibes here.

The difference between the pern type dragon rider and the dragonmaw is that the dragonmaw are enslaving drakes instead of being buddy buddy partners.

The big issue for me is that in Pern being a dragon rider was a big deal. They were like world police, and nobdy was better than them. Only the riders could hear the dragons and everyone else thought they were just dumb beasts. Supar special. But here on azeroth Dragons are a dime a dozen. Sure, some one can make a close bond of friendship with one, but anyone can talk to it and befriend it too. It's like starting up a "Hawkstrider riders of Azeroth" or "Horse riders of Azeroth!" club. It just sounds like a self mastubation for yuyo. She can run around going "LOOK LOOK, I'M RIDING A DRAGON! I'M -SO COOL-!"

On another note, who else would love to see more non-dragon mounts? Personaly I think the windriders could use a bit of love. Maybe with a reskinned high quality rare drop.

Exactly. It's what I'm routinely saying around here when it comes to WrA's frequent "borrowing" of other canons- you use it, you make the boast that you are that character or on level with that character, or in this case, Pern canon.

But the reality is no, no you are not as awesome as the Dragon Riders of Pern. Half of the awesomeness doesn't even work, because like you said, dragons of Pern are regarded as stupid animals by most people, and in WoW everyone knows dragons are intelligent.

I very much agree that we need some mount love that isn't a dragon mount. I personally want a Sporebat mount for my Hunter. :D

Mm, true. I think the green dragon thing *was* more of a partnership (we're really not given much info there) but again, as you say, not exclusive. I'm just not entirely convinced that she's borrowing from DRoP here; at least the dragon's name doesn't end in -th, yaknow?

Also: Dragonmaw are freaking awesome. That is all.

What? No, silly, of course his uniform that very clearly marks him as an elite awesome soldier isn't why. It's because of his borken heart! Damaged by the ravages of an uncaring lover, now he has built up a wall around it, to keep himself from evar suffering such pain again! And only someone with patience and a gentle, caring heart could possib...uhh...

Many japacheese, handle it. Yuyuyupikachuyuyuko's albino drake used to be named "Hikari" so at least that's a step up.

Ugh Yuyuko. That player needs to grow up. I can't tell you how many tantrums I've seen them throw OOCly if something doesn't go their way. Not to mention they want walk up RP but then when someone walks up to RP with them they tell them to go away (once again OOCly).

And then there's the fact they just seem to exist only to show off all the "awesome" stuff they've collected during their play time.
