Day 6

In your own space, share a book/song/movie/tv show/fanwork/etc that changed your life. Something that impacted on your consciousness in a way that left its mark on your soul. Leave a comment in this post saying you did it. Include a link to your post if you feel comfortable doing so.

I. Comic: ElfquestI was incredibly young when I started reading Elfquest. Think between 5-7. It was a comic my best friends parents had, and that she and I adored, and it scored my brain eternally for the sheer breadth any work can have. That you can cover thousands of years, and every shred of humanity, from children to sexulaity to genetics to betrayals and love and friends and yearnings that can never be answered. On and on it went.

Someday soon it's actually slotted to end, but you know we've heard than 2-3 times in my life already and I don't think I shall honestly believe it until one of the two creators actually leaves this world. I return to that comic so often through my life (which is a massive compliment from a girl who does not rewatch tv/moveis or reread books [because doing either decreases the space of time in my life for watching new things in my scant six-seven decades left to fill up]).

I. Song: Musical - Phantom of the OperaI was owned by this musical by the age of ten or eleven (which, for those doing the math, was six years into the seventeen I spent training as a high soprano), and it has stuck in as deep as though the musical was tattooed on my skin. My grandmother sent me to the cd (and tickets to a showing a few months later) one Chritmas, and I had it memorized when a month.

And that showing? Was the first of something like 12 over my life, tus far. Plus? My love of the musical was how I met my current roommate and live-in best friend, who has been here for fourteen years now.

There is so much about this musical. I have loved the music, but I love the constant commentary in it and in fans of it, about the artists vs. art, which see in both Erik and Christine. The choices we make and don't make. But just for note? I would have sold my soul to Erik for the muse at ten.

(I'm pretty sure that's mostly still true now, since I still belong to music and writing.)
