Hopefully this will be a quickie, it doesn't feel like there was a lot that happened at pre con but I did have a few pre con (mental) rants.
So, the day started with the Joe Biden fairy. I had this dream where I was watching an Obama speech on a really messed up tv and it looked like Biden had been shrunk, chibified, turned green, and given wings so he was Obama's shoulder fairy. Who kept saying "This is a big fucking deal!" I started laughing when I remembered it after I woke up, think it beats out El's pre-con Kingdom Hearts yaoi dream by a longshot.
El was a bit late picking me up (so I was freaking out a little, but whenever I'm home alone and hear random noises, which is most days, I freak out anyway) and my mom came home just in time to see me off. Turns out that the other guy who was riding with us, Ian, was someone who I knew from anime club ("Yeah, I'm the guy who ran for all the positions and didn't get any." "Don't worry, we were just voting based on cooler hair."). El remarked that my mom didn't seem that worried that strangers were taking her daughter away for a weekend in the back of a red sports car, but my mom really does trust my judgment and has yet to dislike any of my friends.
So, we had a bit of fun with the GPS (I started laughing when the video screen didn't update fast enough and it looked like the car was traveling side to side) and we made it to the hotel safe while debating if the cheese grater for my Soul Eater cosplay counted as live steel. I'm still not 100% sure but it was pretty darn sharp after all.
Checked in, everyone phoned home and then we went looking for our fourth roommate, Gina. If you went to the con there's a good chance you saw her, she was the person with the clock on their tophat. Yes, she (the two of us agreed she could pull off a really good Jonas cosplay from
The Phoenix Requiem) and yes the hat worked, I heard it ticking all night long.
Got over to the convention center and we all got in our respective lines (found Cross right as I got inside and he was able to point me to the right line) and I got done first with my badge oddly enough. Felt strange since I had decided agaisnt cosplaying, I keep saying I'm going to cosplay at precon but I never do. After that was all settled we went off to try and find this BBQ place El had heard about on the Food channel.
So, my first rant, I don't like to spend money on food at the cons. I don't like to spend money eating out at school either, if I've got money on my meal card, why eat out and have to use my savings? And for cons I lean cuisine and the like (didn't work so well this weekend since the hotel never gave us a mini-fridge) but I hate going somewhere and not buying anything. Thankfully I was able to buy cheap stuff this weekend where ever we went but next year I'll stick more to my guns and just head back to get my own grub (or take advantage of the new eating places right near the Marriott, hopefully next year I'll be able to give myself a bigger budget too).
I was hoping to go to an obscure anime panel but when I looked in they were playing Ghost Hunt which isn't obscure to me at all. XD And I was also thinking about volunteering but the con shut down at 9 so I got in too late to do any real work. Then the fifth roommate came.
Rant two, I view AZ as I would view a vacation, something you save up money for well in advance and expect others to do similar. Apparently not, a few people for our room had family emergencies right before the con (and one of them helped still pay for the room) but it felt like a lot of people fell through and simply didn't have the money. Considering El approached me back in the fall about rooming together I know she's been working on this for a while so when people cancel on you in MAY (yes, May!) it's really annoying and we didn't have enough roommates to keep the cost down (and it still ended up being higher than what El had expected). So she went to the internet and found someone willing to room with us, but I'm still mad that those other people weren't more responsible since I was then paranoid about my stuff for 3 days as we had a 32 year old guy with lacking social skills camped out on our floor. >.> Going to try and head a room next year and make people at least put down a down payment in advance, I'm fine with meeting people off the internet but having someone of the other gender and 13 years my senior with the "I don't quite get people" vibe gets me jumpy and rude.
Early night and I think that was all, Friday and Saturday are going to be long posts and Sunday will be a decent length as well, look forward/be worried about them!
