Weekend

My friend Michelle (from the Advanced Studies in England program last summer) came to visit this weekend! We had fun. She came into Richmond by train on Friday, and we walked around the house, studios, and neighborhood, then had dinner and watched "Labyrinth." On Saturday, we made dinner - dumplings, peas, and corn on the cob, with giant ginger cookies for dessert - for us, Momdad, and Phil. And we watched "Totoro." On Sunday, we went to the gym and out to Windmill Hill Farms to get peaches and blackberries. After dinner, we helped Mom peel peaches to make a peach-blackberry crisp, and to freeze some peaches for smoothies, pies, etc. Today, I had to be at work early, but Mom brought Michelle by before sending her off to Richmond with Dad. She should be home by now. It was all a good time.

Today, I petted a horse! An Arabian, no less! (This doesn't mean much to me, but it seems like one of those breeds that horse people squee over.) Her name was Sera, with two more apparently-Arabianesque names after that. On the way to the gym, Mom and I visited family friends - Joanie, a French professor, and her husband Ray, a painter. We looked at a few of Ray's recent pieces, then went out to tramp around the horse pasture because Mom is going to haul off a bunch of manure from it for her new garden. So: I petted a horse!
