So the new Batman movie has me thinking, as I periodically do, about how funny it is that superheroes always seem to exist in universes where no one has ever thought of superheroes. Even the ones who coexist with other heroes (like those in the Justice League)! It's funny because superheroes are a big part of our popular culture - arguable, of our culture, period, yet when you see a book or movie of someone becoming a superhero, s/he is almost never thinking "I'll be a superhero!" And no one ever compares them to other heroes or anything. So, like, Spiderman of the movies exists in New York, but it's a New York wherein no one has ever heard of a masked person fighting crime. Anyway, I've always thought that was funny.
Just in case: I have not yet seen the new Batman movie. Please, no one leave comments that spoil anything.
("Snape kills Trinity with -"
*Whack!* "That was funny the first sixty times, okay?")
Thank you!
