So, after Ffn fail this weekend, I decided to attack some more of my To Be Read List. (Which is now down to like 23 fics, thank you very much!) Anyway, I flounced three fics simply because the author used/overused the word 'whilst'. I know. It's a stupid reason and I'm being ridiculous, but that word, literally, is like nails on a chalkboard for me.
So, I know authors won't care and I'm only one person, but I am no longer reading fics that have 'whilst' in them. Yes, it's proper. Yes, it's correct. And, yes, it annoys the fuck out of me. Especially if Bella is a cheap, dirty, hooker. Is 'whilst' a British thing? Do British people say 'whilst' in every day conversations? Or is it only something they do when writing? It's like the use of 'for'. Supposedly, proper. Definitely, annoying. (Example: She knew he would be there, for all the signs pointed to his return whilst she researched the literature.) Aaaaaaaaaand, you just lost me. I'm sure you'll find some way to go on. I know, devastating that one little person, who doesn't even comment would flounce. But I feel better now that that's off my chest.
