At the end of XIXth century capitalism in the leading European countries of the period reached the point which one Frenchmen called "highest point of artistic perversity". Some rather utilitarian buildings were built as palaces or something like that. May I ask you what is the purpose of this "palace" in Budapest ?
Being the second capital of the dual monarchy - Austro-Hungary- Budapest got a very many impressive buildings in the second part of XIXth century. Austro-Hungary was a very specific empire of the period and paid a lot of attention to the science and arts. Hence the desire to build artistically and architecturally impressive buildings. Walking along Budapest streets you may find rather interesting examples of such "artistic perversions". For example this "palace" you can find on Alakurti street:
Let's come closer:
Let's come in and several glimpses inside:
If you think that this is noble palace you are not right. This is simply public baths :) Now this is health and spa complex - Széchenyi Spa. Built between 1881 and 1890 it well represents the style of the golden age of capitalism in Europe.
Not far away from those baths another "toy complex" was built. It is so called Vajdahunyad castle. It is a copy of one Transilvanian castle with addition of palace built between 1896 and 1908 by the architect Ignac Alpar. Today this is of course one of the decorations of Budapest but when you get the knowledge when this complex was built you got the complex that is fake :)))
View to the "castle":
Gates to the castle which don't had any intentions to serve as defensive structure:
Palace from early XXth century but imitates XVIIIth century. But it is nice:)
Chapel - looks like a true Gothic masterpiece :))
Walls of the "castle":
The palace built for the Millennial expo had and still has very noble purpose - agricultural exposition :)) Today here is located Hungarian agricultural museum:
Such a short report about perversions of golden age of capitalism :)
