I don't really have time for this, but meh.

I have to make Juu Shun time.

Well, Shun time, actually.

375.

From the script and without any meaningful pictures to indicate the 'eyes of the dead man' expression, I have a thousand few observations that need to be babbled somewhere.

First of all, there's the business with Love and his 'anger'.

I thought about this and I wonder - is Love resentful towards Shunsui because of the fact Shunsui bore witness for Aizen back when everything happened? And is Shunsui's response about guilt on that account?

It could be, but it seems somehow...deeper to me, especially the way Shunsui replied.

It's been my theory for some time that Lisa and Rose were classmates and are friends and therefore it'd crossed my mind Rose might have been in 8th Division at some point in the past. I also wondered if he was Love's VC before being bumped up to Captain, since Love is also someone he's pretty close with. Now that's all speculative, but now we have Love being bitchy and Shunsui being dark and, well, tortured and Rose doesn't seem to be saying anything at all.

I'm thinking now that Rose and Love both knew about Shunsui's zanpakutou release.

...Rae, if she's reading this, is about to turn this into a slash triangle, but LEAVING that option out of it...><...

I wonder if this does relate to that night or if it doesn't. What battle did Shunsui interfere in before for Love to make a statement like that? Has Shunsui had to save Love's ass (no, Rae, stop it, NOW) in the past and does Love resent him for that fact? And does SHUNSUI resent Love in return? Are the comments Shunsui makes relating to some deep dark past event or are they relating to that night - the night he sent his Vice Captain out into the wilderness and never saw her again until this fight?

It's my opinion that Shunsui has probably suffered a good deal since all of that occurred...and more since Aizen was uncovered as the guilty party. He sent Lisa out, and as a result, he lost Lisa - just as Juu lost Kaien. Lisa doesn't bear him any grudges, I don't think - their interplay was different, sort of banter-affectionate-confrontation, pretty much as it was when they were Captain and VC. No doubt Shunsui was close to Lisa. Does he blame Love and Rose - and maybe the others too - for the fact none of them finished the battle that night?

Or is it himself he blames most of all for being the witness that placed Aizen in a different location? He turns away from them before speaking...is he criticising them or is he criticising himself in all of this?

The first time I read it, I thought he was making a dig at Rose and at Love. And maybe he is. But he's also making a dig at himself with the sake and whatever else. I'm not sure exactly what, but SOMETHING has happened here. Something we don't know about yet, but something that makes me very curious. Underling(s) is a bad word. I dislike it. If the script is right, it is the word that Shunsui uses...but even so, I dislike it. It's not a very Shunsui word. It's...loaded. It's the kind of word someone uses when they're hiding a lot more they want to say that they aren't saying. It's a 'bitter' word. A frustrated word.

Does that make sense?

It's not the usual, casual, laid back Shunsui we're used to.

Which fits with the other thing about Shunsui - he doesn't like fighting or killing. In contrast to Ukitake, who made the decision in a heartbeat and who would've killed Kaien to get rid of the hollow, I think the idea of taking a life hurts Shunsui far more. He sees right through it and that they're not just fighting and killing soulless enemies but 'themselves' in some respect. The vaizard and arrancar are the fine line between the two species - probably, to Shun, it's made even more distasteful a job by the fact he can see parallels between himself and Stark and therefore he really is killing himself. I may have been hopelessly biased by all the fanfic I've written for the boys, but for Shun to react that way to winning his fight seems so totally and perfectly in character. Stark isn't dead and I'm sure Shunsui knows that, yet he hasn't tried to do anything about it. He's suffering enough just doing what he's been sent there to do.

Right now we don't know what state Juu is in, but I'm hoping the reason for Shun's expression does not have anything to do with Ukitake's wounds ><

The parallel between Stark and Lilinette and Juu and Shun isn't really quite there in all respects, but to me some aspect of it is. Stark and Lilinette were of the same creature and Juu and Shun are separate Shinigami. However, they are connected by their twin bladed zanpakutou. And it's still my belief that because he has Juu, Shunsui isn't lonely. Just as Stark has Lilynette. The whole Stark vs Shun/Lily vs Ukitake only kinda emphasises that parallel for me.

Love had a nerve though. It was Shun's battle before he even appeared on the scene xD.

Aaand I've run out of ramble energy, though there are about six thousand things I haven't mentioned yet. Halibel. Aizen. The shikai of Lisa and Hiyori.

And on a complete other random note...

HARUTOKI 3 IS GETTING A NOO ANIMEEEEE

Ok its an OVA, I think...but...does that mean we get a conclusion to Kurenai no Tsuki?

I must finish Hinoe and Kagetoki's paths before that comes out...

spoiler nonsense
