Thanks to all of you for your great feedback! I've incorporated as many of the changes as I've been able to, not having a photographer around to document me making a new set of mitts (I did a lot of illustrations in Illustrator instead), so I hope these instructions are better for the "advanced" beginner, and that I explained things a bit better. So I got a dozen blocks at the Harvest Quilter's Holiday meeting/party, and decided to make a quilt out of them (hopefully quilted and bound before their show in March). I designed it on the Winter Solstice, and that's what I named it.( photos and such )

This post, and the few that follow are going to be photo-heavy, as I've been waiting to upload a bunch of photos.

for the past two days and it's not because I'm being lazy, it's because there is so much of it! I'm attempting to get it all to fit within the storage shelves and reclaim my cutting surface.

but not "excellent" - the quilt I entered in the show got a solid "B" (4 out of 5) in every judging  category. I guess that's not terrible for my second quilt to be judged. I'm only slightly disappointed. I'm not discouraged, however. One of my local guild mates got a 2nd place ribbon for a quilt that didn't get anything at a different show a few ( Read more... )

Last month, I took a class in portrait quilting from Bisa Butler. I didn't do the Marylin Monroe class project other than color in the paper. I thought about things for a few weeks and then jumped right in on the "portrait of my mother as a young woman" (working title of the quilt so far)
