Winter Solstice Quilt top

Dec 30, 2009 22:10

So I got a dozen blocks at the Harvest Quilter's Holiday meeting/party, and decided to make a quilt out of them (hopefully quilted and bound before their show in March). I designed it on the Winter Solstice, and that's what I named it.

It's supposed to evoke the sun rising at the solstice. I couldn't get the camera to focus and not distort terribly (probably because the flash wasn't on and I couldn't see what was in the lens - I was up a ladder and had my arm out over my bed...
Anyway, here's a more in-focus picture of the compas/star in the center with the first border:

The center octagon is using that brown Klimt-like fabric, if you can't see it.
I have no idea how I'm going to quilt this yet, or if I need to put a thin border on the outside instead of just binding it. But I have a little bit of time. After the show, it will go on a wall in the new bedroom, maybe covering up the breaker box.
