The Long Good Thursday/Friday/Saturday/Sunday

I suppose an update is in order. I’ve just returned to work after a four day-weekend and, for the first time in a couple of months, I actually don’t feel ill at all - perhaps I was on the mend anyway but having extra time at home to catch up on sleep seems to have done wonders too. My cough has finally gone!

Over the long weekend I have:

• Been to see Underworld: Evolution. I was quite tipsy when I saw the first Underworld movie and remember little of its plot, so I spent a lot of the sequel trying to pick up the threads. I dunno. It was quite fun anyway - it's part of that growing sub-genre of movies where a rubber cat suit is both a comfortable and practical thing to wear when doing slow-motion acrobatics on rooftops.

• Finished making my short ‘documentary movie’ about myself, which I have titled A Day in the Life. So that’s another thing that’s coming to Germany with me next week.

• I also finished editing the thirty chapters of The Nursery - so version 2.0 of the manuscript is complete now, at least as far as the text is concerned. I spent much of the weekend working on the thirty themed illustrations that I want to go with it; I’d already got several done over the last few months but now I need them all sorted out. At the last count, I still have nine to finish off by the end of this week. Then the whole thing needs printing and taking over to Staples for duplication. And then I think it’s time for a well-earned rest!

• On Saturday we went up to Camden, for a noodle lunch and to finally replace my decrepit old New Rocks - my parents gave me the money to do this as my main Christmas present but it’s been a busy month and this was the first opportunity I'd had to go and look at new boots. It took me ages to make up my mind, but I’m pleased to report I now have a pair of boots large enough to stop a Centurion tank. Very nice.
The old pair are probably still worth something for spares, so if anybody reading this needs any replacement 'reactor' style bits for their own boots, please let me know. Otherwise, they’ll probably be disposed of via eBay, when I eventually get round to setting up that seller’s account. Y also got a pair of boots, although mine are significantly spikier.

• On our way back from Camden, I received a message from Dave and Mary Kreuzdammer, inviting us out for a drink at the Dev, so we returned to Camden and stayed there until sometime after midnight, talking about bands, movies, tattoos (Dave now has one) and all the usual stuff. The music in there was better than I usually remembe it. Dave told me it’s the first time he’s seen me in months not looking ill! Someone got murdered outside the tube station and the ensuing police presence meant massive traffic diversions, but we made it back home eventually (hopefully Mary and Dave did too - I really should call them and check). Good old Camden. After all the expense of the last few days, I doubt I’ll be back there again for a while, anyway.

That’s about it, I think. It looks like being another hectic week, but I’ve only got to make it through to Friday and then I’m off again for a bit. Some multivitamins should help...

* Incidentally: hippymetaller, your birthday video has also now been edited and is in the post. Be afraid!
