I subscribe to the New York Times. I used to subscribe to the Washington Post and I need to do so again if only for the yuks. And the local news. Since all local news is gone bye-bye now.

The fun thing about summers now is No One's Home. When kids are little there's some kind of camp or quit your job. Or hire a very reliable kid to sit. Or family but I've never lived near my family. Camp is quite the industry here.
Now the boys are older they could stay home by themselves and XBox the day away. This year I have one working at a camp and one being forcibly socialized with older kids so he doesn't get tortured in middle school. Or tortured as much. He likes the field trips.
It was a lucky confluence of events for you with your house! And that's great! But the article was head-scratching over why, in aggregate, young folks aren't leaping into (more) debt. Maybe they're smart? The authors were also nudging banks into lowering their credit requirements so more people who can't afford houses can buy houses. Should we really go there again?
