Claire brought out several transparent plastic boxes of varying sizes for her cats to check out, resulting in some tomfoolery and liquid cats.

I made it to the SNAP office today to find out that not only did their system no longer have me as disabled and using a Medicaid spenddown, but also underestimated my rent despite my answered question and letter proof of my rent figure. Considering I saw the correct rent figure on the HRA website last week, I am even more wtf. Also, it turns out that in the question about medical expenses on the website form, I was supposed to put in my spenddown amount, quite unlike my reading of "I don't have medical expenses because my Medicaid pays those!" How was I to know? Grrrrrrrrrrrr. I wrote down corrections on a form and signed it to be submitted and gave the woman at the counter some of my proof documents again. She says they'll have to rebudget me to figure out my Food Stamps (something that of course doesn't happen at this office), which will take about 15 days and I'll get a notice of by mail. She can't guarantee that the new total will be better than $16 a month, but it damned well better be. If this drags on into October, she says they'll eventually credit me what I should have been getting that month.

I told her it is very, very important that the system knows I'm disabled, that I can't do 80 hours of work of month to get Food Stamps. Since I have no idea how my status was screwed up, I don't know what it'll take to fix it... and neither does she, the plausible deniability of bureaucracy.

Oh, she also says that no one is answering the phone numbers because no one is in the offices, which are closed. Great! My senator's office didn't know this either.

I arrived at 3:50 pm and got out at 4:40 pm, which isn't bad. My conversation and paperwork exchanges with the woman took about 20 minutes. That I stand through, as usual. There weren't a ton of people. We all wore masks and sat at some distances from each other. Usually there are offices on several floors here since they do various kinds of benefits, but today in the midst of the pandemic everything is consolidated on the first floor.

Glad I got this started. Now all I can do is wait.

I'm going back to mailing my recertification in for the future because the website version I used this year apparently sucks. You can comment here or at the Dreamwidth crosspost.
