Gotham is finally picking up! It's sad that I figured it would have to happen after the
murder of hundreds of people, but I was right. It started a bit in "Ruin" and more in "Pena Dura," though "Pena Dura" is helped along by
having Oswald and Ed thinking about and interacting with each other a bit. I'm amused that the both of them think that murdering hundreds of people for no good reason is crossing the line and going too far. (Which is apparently better than the people who sent in Angel and his squad can say. So this is how that team-up shown at the beginning of the premiere comes about.) Then again, Oswald also balked at mass killing in "That's Entertainment" in season four, explaining reasonably that he can't rob or rule if there aren't any people to do it to. I was gleeful about the whole Ed/Oswald confrontation in "Pena Dura." Damn, that small murder bird (barely) contains a lot of chutzpah. Aw, they're doing romantic declarations of how honestly they'd murder each other! (Ed looking Oswald in the eye and not using trickery is something I kind of doubt though. Stabbing Oswald in the front is a novelty where Ed's concerned, since usually it's a ton of chicanery to wear Oswald down first.) Also love that Ed finds out about Edward the dog.
Ed, Oswald is genuinely in love with you. He might still someday kill you--you sure keep asking for it--but he'd probably feel a little bad about it. (Okay, the whole thing where Oswald said he saved Ed's life because he's the only friend he has aside from Butch, with Ed replying, "You shot Butch!", leading to Well, I really needed a friend after that, didn't I?...)
Ed doesn't remember being stabbed and dying? Interesting.
I chortled during the brain surgery sequence; it was too cartoonish not to. Ed should be thankful he didn't get at least part of his head shaved for it the way he should have.
Oswald takes a police interrogation beating like a pro at this point. I can't help being amused by him explaining Ed as a whimsical criminal figure, all games and not a hardcore mass killer, but Ed isn't really a professional criminal the way Oswald is.
Selina was mean to Bruce, but I'd also be ticked off if some guy was telling me he knew me better than I knew myself while also continually getting in my way.
My gothy soul is loving a lot of the costume designs this season. Oswald looking sharp as hell at every moment, though I particularly appreciated that super saturated red tie against all that black in this episode. Ed going the emo Black Parade route, though this episode particularly killed it with all that deep green and black. And those ankle boots! I also liked Ivy's sparkly whatever a few episodes ago.

I'm really enjoying Collide's Color of Nothing, but I would still love to hear what kaRIN actually sounds like without all the voice processing, though she sounds more human here than she did in Counting to Zero.
