Me: I'm watching the recent Star Trek movie on the FX channel. Once again, I feel that Captain Kirk's superpower is his ability to take a beating.
Thorn: Bwa-ha-ha! That is true. But it is only his second superpower, his primary one is getting into trouble.
Me: It's usually the kind of trouble that leads to opportunity.
Thorn: Naturally. Or we would not get a movie.
Me: heh
Me: Lucky, masochistic bastard
Thorn: I guess he is. The masochism is out and proud in that movie. :P
Me: Hit me, beat me, strangle me....
Me: Obviously the only way to get Spock to step down is get him to kill me as hard as I can.
Thorn: Pump me up with weird medications... He does take a beating every time he is trying to do something, doesn't he...
Me: Well, he does have a passive-aggressive, sado-masochistic relationship with McCoy.
Thorn: Which the fandom loves to illustrate with BDSM fiction. :P
Me: I'm sure.
Me: McCoy probably tests new meds on Kirk just to see the worst case scenarios.
Thorn: Bwa-ha-ha-ha!
Me: You need to know possible side effects!
Thorn: Oh, look, never saw that side effect before!
Me: He's developed all kinds of new versions of the Epi-pens just dealing with it.
Thorn: Heh.
Me: Kirk is helping Science. That has to make him happy.
Thorn: He is the preeminent Starfleet specialist on allergies!
Me: I don't know how much better medicine of that time is, but a scan of Kirk's body must reveal all kinds of odd damage regardless. Scars, fused old bone breaks, missing pieces....
Me: Brain damage
Thorn: I would not be surprised. They also use him as an illustration in medical classes. :P
Me: There are books written about him. Books.
Thorn: *nods* Spock is actually impressed by the number of medical text that bring him up as reference. Even he, as a hybrid does not get that many mentions.
Me: Though I'm sure he has to say that he prefers not to use the methods Kirk uses to get mentions in so many texts.
Thorn: I can so see him having this conversation with McCoy.
Me: Kirk's totally aware. Of course people are talking about him.
