You always hear about Kirk being referred to in military texts (or pseudo-military Federation texts, the Federation's not supposed to be the military, right?) but I haven't heard so much about the scientific and medical texts in which he obviously must get mentioned quite a lot. That adds a new dimension to him, for me; I never thought about it before. So that's why McCoy stayed close to Kirk for so long. It wasn't the hot gay threesome sex with Spock after all!
