Moving On

On Saturday's adult swim....

Bleach: Okay, Renji in bell bottoms is hilarious. But is this where the filler starts? Or do we get to look forward to 40 episodes about rescuing Orihime?

Death Note: I appreciate the use of color and motion in this anime so much. Near gets the pale blue as befitting the pale shadow of L *ahem*, while Mello gets gold, oranges, and sometimes red, perhaps to comment on his occasionally Kira-like ruthlessness. When we find out Mello's still alive, it's in Hal's gold and orange colored apartment, while everyone is bleached out by the pale blue light of Near's lair. Mello's photo has blue and gold in it, and I wonder if the anime departed from the dark eyes the manga gave Mello to give him light blue eyes as a way of tying him into Team Anti-Kira's blue.

I like the trains moving in circles around Near in the confrontation scene. That kind of thing is probably there to provide more visual dynamism to what's one of Death Note's many talking/thinking scenes. It's less obtrusive than the sparkly, ejaculating potato chips earlier in the series.

Is it just me, or do Near and Mello seem to hate each other less in the anime than in the manga?

Code Geass: Yep, Lulu is a manipulative bastard. Having a disabled sister, one no doubt disabled by the barrage of bullets that killed your mother, doesn't distract from that. It was kind of funny listening to Suzaku and Lelouch/Zero talking to each other at the end and thinking they were both wrong and faintly moronic.

anime, adult swim, death note, bleach, code geass: lelouch of the rebellion
