A tech-savvy friend--the one who helped me with Blue May 2007 when 4G was trying to make me replace the motherboard and again in
February this year when a Windows update prevented Blue from booting up--has pushed the installation of AOL past the "two non-existent programs open" thing and managed to configure my modem to work in it. We were able to use the internet to correct the time.
Like Acer's technicians, he has no idea what's up with the "System Wizard" warning pop-up box. But two hours in, while I had AOL and Word open, the notebook experienced a fatal error that made it shut down in self-protection. My friend looked in the log after we restarted but can't figure out what went wrong. I'm online at home now and hoping it won't recur because it would be really nice having internet over the Memorial Day weeked.
I'm definitely going to use the System Restore discs when they arrive.
