*I'm chock full of ideas about teen services now. In particular, I'm dying to get into juvenile detention centers on a regular basis, though how I'm going to convince anyone that this would be at all related to my job is sort of up in the air. Apparently the actual teen services department is considering doing this anyhow; perhaps I just need to knock one of them off so there's a spot open over there.
*The Quality Inn in Columbia is home to the world's slowest wireless connection. Seriously. It took nearly ten minutes to load my email. That's a bit too much for me, so I wasn't online nearly as much as I had expected to be.
*I stayed in all weekend. We did get a new DVD player, since ours was falling apart. It's nice not having to pry opening the disc try with a knife. I discovered that our out of town guests will be arriving a couple days earlier than the boy had previously told me, so there's a flurry of cleaning happening. Have I mentioned that I hate cleaning? Ugh.
*I also acquired some new yarn (mostly little bits just to play around with), a bunch of knitting and sewing mags, a Craig Thompson graphic novel, several new albums (Hocico, Suicide Commando, Stromkern, and the Neil Gaiman tribute), and a bunch of tasty good veggies. I promise to try something besides gumbo with the okra this time, even.
*Plus, we got some books for
mangledpuppies's brother's girls since their birthday is in a couple of weeks. Mo Willems, Jon Scieszka, Lane Smith, and Eric Carle should cover all the basics. We've been informed that the birthday party is Dora the Explorer themed. While I'm ok with the concept of this show, I think it's pretty sad that kids are being so exposed to consumerism this early--it's their first freaking birthday, after all.
